Live (Phase) Wires

Neutral Wires
Neutral wires should be connected to the neutral busbar inside the distribution box. In a subpanel, the neutral busbar must not be bonded to the ground busbar; this separation prevents unwanted current flow through the grounding system and complies with NEC regulations . For single-pole breakers, the neutral bypasses the breaker and connects directly to the neutral busbar, while for double-pole breakers, the neutral is connected to the breaker according to its markings .
Ground (Protective Earth) Wires
Ground wires (PE) must be connected to the ground busbar in the distribution box. This busbar is linked to the building's grounding system, providing a safe path for fault currents. If the breakers include residual current protection (RCDs), the PE wire may also connect to the breaker's dedicated terminal .
Wiring Practices
- Use appropriate wire sizes based on circuit load: typically 2.5 mm² for lighting and sockets, and 2.5–4 mm² for air conditioning circuits .
- Arrange breakers from left to right, with wiring from the main breaker to branch breakers generally on the left, and outgoing wiring on the right .
- Bind wires neatly with plastic ties and mark circuits clearly for voltage and type (AC/DC), .
- Perform a safety inspection after wiring to ensure no short circuits, overloads, or improper connections . By following these guidelines, the secondary distribution box will safely distribute power to downstream circuits while maintaining compliance with electrical codes and ensuring proper separation of neutral and ground.
